Well, it’s been almost six years since we moved into our house, and our thinking room* is complete!
When our house was built, the thinking room* was intended for a dining room, but the first five years we’ve lived here, I’ve fought the idea, hard. In those first five years, I thought of a hundred different ways to use that little, ol’ front room of ours, none of which I saw through in completion, and finally decided to cave in and use the space for exactly what it should be: a dining room.
Funny enough, the dining room was the first room in the house I painted to get rid of the swine-colored, khaki builder grade paint. I thought I would get couple cozy chairs, an end table, a bookcase or two, and it would be a lovely sitting room, but when the hunt for chairs lasted two years, other projects started, and the thinking room* design plan got tossed to the side.
This past March, after I had hosted my seventh or tenth shower, my mom finally pointed how much use I would have gotten out of the front room if it had been a dining room. I was always panicked I wouldn’t have enough room for guests to be able to sit down and eat, or just a quiet place for them to sit and talk quietly.
So, I gave in.
And here we are, the dining room project is complete, and I couldn’t be happier!
[Sorry there’s not really a before picture – all you would have seen would have been a blank room with walls].
This room is cozy & perfect. Tony and I can’t wait to use it and create memories with friends.
*The term thinking room was originally given by Tony because we really didn’t want it to be a dining room. When my first idea included two cozy chairs & bookcases, Tony’s immediate statement was, ‘what is this going to be, then? A thinking room?’ & from then on, this space was known as The Thinking Room.
